Bachelor of Nursing For Registered Nurses @ Waiariki Institute of Technology, New Zealand

This one year full time study Programme is offered by the school of Nursing and Health Studies at Waiariki Institute of Technology for nurses who are registered as a nurse in an overseas country and who wish to gain a New Zealand Bachelor of Nursing Qualification. English Language instruction is built into the teaching programme to assist students with their English Language communication. The Bachelor of Nursing for registered Nurses is made up of eight courses and four are taught in each semester. The courses are:

  • Nursing Knowledge
  • Applied research
  • Health Studies
  • Contemporary Issues in Nursing Practice
  • Kawa Whakaruruhau Cultural Safety in Aotearoa/New Zealand Special Topic
  • Academic Study and Communication
  • Nursing Concepts and Processes of Practice

These underpin the philosophy of the curriculum. This along with the nursing knowledge and research components of the degree provides a basis for the ongoing development of professional practice for registered nurses. The academic programme of study has a strong practice focus, and is applicable to a broad range of practice setting. Students who have had a good range of clinical experience will therefore benefit the most from their study. Also provides part-time option for education necessary for advancement in the health industry and provides for an academic upgrade to Bachelor level for Registered Nurses.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Completion of this degree does NOT enable the student to practise as a nurse in New Zealand. In order to practise in New Zealand you must apply to the nursing council of New Zealand (NCNZ) for registration. To gain registration you will generally be required by NCNZ to undertake a competency assessment programme (CAP) through a nursing school. These are generally between 6-12 weeks long and costs lesser if you graduate in the RNBN programme from this University.

You must have an IELTS score of 7 in all bands or 4 ‘B’ passes in OET (Occupational English Test) to gain permission from the NCNZ to enroll in Cap to complete NCNZ registration requirements.

Eligibility:

  • Registration as a nurse in own country
  • At least one year of post registration clinical experience with in the last five years.
